If you want to spend a few days in solitude in the lap of clouds, visit Lamahatta in North Bengal. If you reserve a car from New Jalpaiguri station or take a shared jeep, you will reach in three hours.

  • The eco-tourism project was developed here in 2012. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was fascinated by the natural beauty as she walked through the village. Eco-tourism park is now one of the main attractions of the small village.

How to Reach Lamahatta?

  • By Train: Lots of trains going from Sealdah to New Jalpaiguri. Some of the special ones are Darjeeling Mail, North Bengal Express, New Jalpaiguri Express, Padatik Express, and Kanchanakanya Express. All these trains leave at night and arrive the next morning. Those who want to go in the morning can catch the Kanchenjunga Express, it arrives in the evening.
    NJP to Lamahatta Distance 70 Km. From the stations, you can book a private car which takes about 2.30-3 hours to reach depending on the road condition.

    For your Information:
    Darjeeling to Lamahatta distance 20 Km. It will take 1.5 hours from Darjeeling to Lamahatta by car.
    Kalimpong to Lamahatta Distance 30km. It will take about 1.5 hours from Kalimpong to Lamahatta by car.
  • By Flight: To reach Lamahatta by flight, you can board a flight to Bagdogra Airport (Bagdogra to Lamahatta Distance 74.8 Km). You can rent a car from Bagdogra to Lamahatta.
  • By Shared Car: Shared taxis/Jeeps are available from Siliguri to Jorebungalow. You can take a shared jeep up to Jorebungalow and then another one from there up to Lamahatta.

Things To Do in Lamahatta

  • The natural beauty of Lamahata will definitely fill your mind. The main attraction of Lamahata is the eco-park here. To enter this park you have to buy a ticket which costs 15 rupees per person. Inside the eco-park, you will find a dense forest surrounded by pine trees and various species of birds, butterflies, and orchids. Here you will find floral arrangements and natural beauty.

  • There is a pond at the top of the Eco Park which is very sacred for the residents. You can trek around the pond if you want. In order to reach the pond, a rocky road has been built here on the hill which has gone through the middle of the dense forest. Adventurer lovers will surely enjoy the trail through the middle of this dense forest and the road to the pond.

  • If the sky is clear you will see distant mountain peaks Kanchenjunga which is the third highest peak in the world. Darjeeling, Tiger Hill, and the colorful river can also be seen from here.

  • Tea Estates: You can visit the tea gardens nearby (you will get one within about 1.5kms). Some of the well-known tea estates nearby include Rongli Rangliot Tea Estate, Takdah Tea Estate, etc.
  • You can also visit the wonderful hamlet Tinchuley from Lamahatta. Tinchuley is 6kms from Lamahatta. The road passes through the lovely Peshok Tea Gardens. Tinchuley is famous for the excellent views of Kanchenjunga.
  • Trekking in Lamahatta:
    i) There is a short nature trail that leads to a small sacred lake (According to local people) on a hilltop.
    ii) You can also do jungle trekking there.
    iii) Trek to Takdah Orchid Center (Around 5km).

    i) You can rent a private car from NJP to Lamahatta. In that case, your estimated cost will be around 2500-3000 rupees. These fares may vary depending on the season.
    ii) If you have a low budget then you can go to a share jeep. In that case, your cost will be reduced a lot. In this case, you need to reach Jorebungalow first. You can take a shared jeep up to Jorebungalow and then another one from there up to Lamahatta. From Siliguri To Jorebungalow, the shared car cost will be Rs. 250-300 per person. From Jorebungalow to Lamahatta, the shared car cost will be Rs. 50-60.

    From Darjeeling to Lamahatta private car costs around 1500 Rupees.
  • From Bagdogra:
